Tesla Chronicles #8 - Travels to Rural PA

(Posted to Facebook 8/8/2021)

We are planning a trip to Rural PA in the next few weeks. Rural = a place that is at least 50 miles from the closest Supercharger (which would be about 15 minutes of extra driving to get off our route to stop here), or 85 miles from the last Supercharger that is ON our direct route. My desired would be to use ONLY superchargers for a trip like this.... but that might not be possible.

So that leaves the option of locating destination chargers at hotels we might stay at (there is one, but the nightly rate is higher than others), or to possibly stop at the local Municipality which has a destination charger, which would require a several block walk while we family in the area (or a family member to shuttle me back and forth.) The car would need at least an hour, maybe two of charging there to have a comfortable level of charge for my liking. Perhaps plugging into a 120V outlet might be just enough to add enough charge to get back to one of the Superchargers....

None of these obstacles are showstoppers, but it shows how, with an EV, one just cannot jump into the vehicle and go like in an ICE, particularly to Rural areas of the country. Doing so requires some additional planning and thinking about the travel plan, path to take, hotels to stay at. I'll admit this is something most people are just not ready to do, for me, it is like a puzzle.
