Tesla Chronicle #2 - Short road trip

(Posted to Facebook 7/3/2021)

We took a shortish, 200 mile round trip (plus some local driving) to Harrisburg and back over the past 24 hours. Everything went great. As of right now, there are no convenient Superchargers between here and there that would be easy to access along the way. The first one along the TP is in Carlisle I believe if/when we head west of Harrisburg….we’ll probably think about stopping there….but for this trip, we didn’t need it. Our destination has a 14-50 outlet that we used to “fully charge” (to 85%) over night. We used 40-45% charge each way which included some local driving once we got there. Using a standard 110 outlet to charge while there would have been enough, but having the faster 14-50 option was nice to have for sure. The car needed less than 6 hours to give back about 50% charge….it would have taken nearly the full 24 hours to do that on the 110 outlet.

This trip is basically a flat drive….and the car’s map estimated our arrival SOC almost perfectly (so did “ABRP”), which is great to know for some of our future / longer trips. I am interest to see how climbing the mountains of western PA or MD goes in several weeks. We averaged about 300 W/mile which would be about 240 miles of range using the full 100%… but that is to be expected when driving above 70mph honestly.

I can see in a few instances where having FSD would have been nice for the Automatic lane changes, but not worth the extra expense IMO. Overall, it was a good trip! Can’t wait for the next one!
