I finally figured out that I can share all of the driving and charging information from our trip to Disney and back in March / April. The link below takes you to a page with all the details and summaries on the side. I share this in case anyone is asking what it is like to do a long trip in an EV like this one.
2300 miles - 36 hours of driving 19 Tesla Super Charger Stops - 6 hours of stops, $212 (a savings of over $300).... that is about 19 minutes per stop on average. I estimated that would have needed about 4 hours of stops in an ICE for bathroom, food, and gas anyway....so the impact to the trip of driving an EV was about 2 extra hours.
Going south was our first big drive like this and I think we generally Overcharged the car, so our average stop was closer to 30 minutes. Coming back, we added more stops but made them shorter. Going south also, we started out with a COLD car and cold battery, so our driving wasn't as efficient and charging was a little slower. Coming home the car was nice and warm most of the way until our last day of driving from VA north.
I share this only because it drives me NUTS every time I see someone on social media state that EVs are useless on long trips because their range is too short and they take "hours" to charge. We generally stopped because we needed a break...some people have super bladders, I am not one of those people. You also need food and would need to stop for gas anyway several times. We managed to do about 120 miles on most of our drives between stops. A few close to 180, a few shorter. And as I stated above, charging stops really only needed to be 15-20 minutes at most stops once we got comfortable with the range we were going to get.
