Tesla Chronicles - #34 - Order a Tesla NOW!

No, seriously, drop everything you are doing now and go put in your order. At the beginning of 2023 the IRS released the EVs that would qualify for the EV tax credit. Unfortunately, many of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y variants were not eligible because they were over the max price limit (or the Model Y was oddly categorized as a sedan and not an SUV). Tesla had two options here. They could fight the IRS, or they could drop the prices of their vehicles. In a move that shocked just about everyone, they dropped their prices by 5-20% to get every variant of the Model 3 and Model Y under the IRS limits. These price drops with the potential $7500 tax incentive (potential as not everyone will qualify for the full amount), essentially drops the price of the Model Y by $20,000. Right now, that means that you can get into a Model Y (no options) for about $45,000 ($50,000 once you factor in all the taxes and fees). Factoring in Fuel and maintenance cost savings, the Model Y is now cheaper to own and operate than just about every other mid-sized SUV sold in the United States. This makes it an almost a no-brainer decision for anytime who has been on the tense about going with a BEV for your next vehicle purchase.

There are still many other great options out there as well, but honestly, they are hard to get. VW ID.4 is a great choice, but nearly possible to get. Everyone wants their 2023 model that is produced in TN, but they are scarce. Waiting lists are over 6 months or more. The Ford ("Mustang" - I hate they called it this) MACH-E as well. There have been some reported quality issues with both of these vehicles, but they are good choices that get the Tax credits. Then you have all the others that are great with no tax credits. EV6 and Ioniq 5. I would hold off on buying these others as I think Teslas price drops will drive down the prices of competitors.

Car has an outdated design. They need a refresh in order for me to ever consider buying one. But this price is very good. Can't argue there. Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be the 2 cars suffering the most .
